The Old Red House, Hannington. NN6 9TB Built 1824 it was a farm house until 1849 when it was a public house called The Green Man. It has changed its name many times over the years but it has mostly been called the Old Red House. In the 1980's it was called the Oasis and it was last known as Hennrys of Hannington. The previous owner Mr Green did not run it as a public house and the building was left empty. Thieves and vandals got in and stripped it of all valuables. It was sold again in 2012 to a building developer who has planning permission to demolish it and build on the land.
When driving on the A43 from Kettering to Northmapton you'll see the Old Red House out the corner of your eye as you pass it with speed. Little do people realise it is one of the most haunted pubs in Northampon and housing some dark secrets and stories. Situated on the A43 opposite the Shell garage it also comes under the village of Hannington although It is a good few minutes walk from the Old Red House to the village of Hannington. This haunted location has had many ghost sightings over the years including sightings of people walking on the verge of the A43 some walking away from the building some towards and one of a young girl. Reports of an old lady looking out of the middle window of the Old Red House. Soldiers walking towards the Hannington village and even ghost horses where many have reported hearing their hooves on the old road next to the public house.
The pub once known as the Green man in 1849 then became the Old Red House. The Pub also housed farmers from the village and was used for a while as an auction house in the late 1880's 1890s. Rumour has it that a man named George after loosing a bet took his own life and hung himself on the middle floor of the building. Many people say the cellar is haunted and most people will not go down there. A pregnant woman came accross the pub seeking help in delivering her baby in 1855. Unfortunately both mother and child did not survive. Some people have heard the sound of a child crying from in the building.
The curse of the Old Red House. An old landlady once is supposed to have said " This pub will remain mine through out my life and death and anyone that tries to change it or damage it in anyway will die" A regular in the pub one day tried to smash the windows but he soon met his untimely death 1 week later as he was crushed to death by a horse.
A ghost group that call them selves SSSLC from the midlands did an investigation one evening. Equipping themselves with with an EMF detector and tape recorders they entered the haunted pub. " There is no electricity in the building so anything detected can be ruled out as not electric. As soon as we entered the Old Red House we could feel its energy and felt as if you were being watched all the time. We decided to all stick together as it is very dark in certain rooms but the pub kept trying to separate us. We all heard walking, footsteps and noises coming from upstairs although we were the only ones in the building. We left a flower on the bar and when we later returned it was in a different place. In one room we all felt dizzy, sick and spinning and all had to get out. We did not need to do any table tipping or glass moving as things were happening all the time. Whispers, feeling someone standing next to you then realising there isn't anyone there, cold spots and breezes, nasty smells that come and go, seeing things move out of the corner of your eye and also being touched. One member of the group said their bottom was slapped as they bent over and another had their hair lifted right into the air. We have an EVP of a lady singing and lots of others which unfortunately we can not understand but it sounds like a man or men talking. When we left the investigation we all had no doubt what so ever that the Old Red House is haunted"
